Boasting a rich chocolate flavor, this tasty fudge is sure to put a smile on everyone's face. You can serve a square or two with a cup of coffee or iced tea, chop it finely to sprinkle over ice cream, or even make it as a gift for loved ones. With a fudge recipe this simple, you'll definitely want to make this more than once.

Making fudge used to mean closely watched pots and candy thermometers, which is why I love this recipe so much. You don't need to worry about any of that. All you need are two basic ingredients, a microwave, and a baking dish!

Some of my other popular fudge recipes include this Snickers fudge and my favorite peanut butter fudge which is also a must-try!

Main Ingredients

The ingredients to make 2 ingredient fudge laid out on a table.

Considering you only need two ingredients in total, both of them are key ingredients! This is all you'll need:

  • Sweetened condensed milk: The basis of the fudge. Make sure you use sweetened condensed milk. Evaporated milk has similar packaging, but isn't the same. Traditional fudge is made with sugar and milk, but using sweetened condensed milk means you have a handy shortcut.
  • Dark chocolate chips: To add a rich flavor. There are many kinds of fudge from plain buttery fudge to chocolate cherry and even key lime varieties. You can use any kind of chocolate here, so if you prefer semisweet or white chocolate chips, feel free to use those instead. You can also experiment with other ingredients and textures. How about adding some chopped peanuts or mini marshmallows?

Instructions Overview

Whether or not you've made fudge the traditional way before (think tall simmering pots and candy thermometers) you will find this 2 ingredient fudge recipe a breeze.

Put the sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl then microwave t for 30-second intervals, until the chocolate has completely melted into the milk.

Now pour the mixture into a greased and foil-lined baking dish and let it set on the countertop. Once it's completely set, you can cut the fudge into small squares to serve.

Common Questions

What exactly is sweetened condensed milk?

This is milk that has been heated to remove the water content. This makes the mixture quite thick. When sugar is added you get sweetened condensed milk. Without the sugar, you have evaporated milk. Remember these are two different things so ensure you grab the right one!

Can you freeze 2 ingredient fudge?

Yes! As long as it's well wrapped and packed so it doesn't dry out, homemade fudge will keep for months in the freezer. You can even serve it directly from there. Frozen fudge makes a great treat!

Can I remelt my fudge?

Even if it doesn't set completely, it is still going to be delicious. You can always melt it again and drizzle it over ice cream if the consistency is too soft to allow you to eat it as it is.

Why does my fudge taste grainy?

Large crystals in fudge can give it a grainy flavor and texture. Stirring the fudge during the cooling process allows sucrose (sugar) crystals to stick to one another resulting in graininess. This is why you shouldn't stir or touch it between putting it in the baking dish and cutting it into squares. Just put it in the foil-lined dish and leave it alone!

Do you cover fudge while it sets?

You don't need to cover the 2 ingredient fudge while it cools on the countertop. But once it's set and in the refrigerator, you should cover the dish with plastic wrap or foil so other flavors or aromas don't affect it.

Chopnotch Tips

  • Try mint chips, butterscotch chips, or white chocolate chips if you don't want to use dark chocolate. Experimenting with flavors and add-ins is all part of the fun!
  • Wrap some of the fudge in cellophane and seal with a pretty ribbon to make a cute festive gift. It's also great for bake sales.
  • I like to make a big batch of this because it's so easy and keeps for months in the freezer, so double or triple the recipe as you like.
