I always keep canned fruit, butter, and cake mix handy so I can make this in a jiffy for unexpected guests. You don't need any other ingredients either.

Just sprinkle the dry cake mix over the peaches, top with butter, and bake! This is one of those recipes you will really be wowed by because with just 3 ingredients and 5 minutes you can make the perfect dessert.

Nobody says no to an easy peach cobbler. In fact, most people ask for a second helping! This peach dump cake is tasty with vanilla ice cream which really brings out that juicy peach taste. Making peach cobbler was never so easy!

Lovers of this fruit will also love these easy peach cupcakes or mini peach cheesecake bites.

Main Ingredients

The ingredients used to make peach cobbler with cake mix laid out on a table.

Of course, every ingredient in this cobbler is a main ingredient since there are only three of them. Let's take a closer look at each:

  • Canned peaches: For fruitiness. You can choose from canned peaches in fruit juice or canned peaches in syrup. The liquid will be soaked up and turned it into a thicker cobbler-type sauce as you prepare this recipe, so you can use either kind. Even fresh peaches would work here if you don't mind the extra labor! If you want to use fresh, add a splash of fruit juice to the first layer too.
  • Cake mix: To make an easy topping. Yellow mix reacts with the peach juice and butter to become a cobbler topping. If you're used to having to combine different ingredients to make cobbler recipes, you'll be delighted how timesaving this ingredient is. Try white mix if you want or even spiced mix. Any kind of cake flavor which goes with peach will work here (and I can't think of one that wouldn't!)
  • Butter: To keep the cobbler moist. Since there are only 3 ingredients here you will want to use real butter and not margarine which would lack the rich flavor and luxurious texture. I like using salted butter because I find a touch of salt complements the otherwise sweet flavors but unsalted would also be fine.

Instructions Overview

How difficult can a 3-ingredient cobbler be? Not hard at all, you'll be pleased to know. The first thing to do is tip the peaches into a baking dish.

Next, sprinkle the yellow cake mix evenly on top and then drizzle the melted butter over it to moisten it all. You can use a fork if need be to ensure you don't leave any dry spots.

All that's left to do is bake and then enjoy it served warm!

Common Questions

What is the difference between a dump cake and a cobbler?

Although both desserts are similar, dump cake is made with cake mix. The ingredients are literally dumped into the baking dish (hence the name!) Cobbler usually has a pie crust or biscuit topping. However, this recipe can also be called a cobbler because it tastes so similar and the terms are often used interchangeably.

Why are canned peaches so good?

Perhaps you thought about using fresh peaches to make the dessert healthier, but wait! Canned peaches in natural juice (as opposed to those in light or heavy sugar syrup) boast all the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients of fresh ones. In fact, one study showed that canned peaches have nearly 4x more vitamin C and also more folate. So stock up on canned peaches; they're good for you!

Can dump cake be frozen?

I'm sure you won't have any of this delicious dump cake leftover, but if you do you can definitely freeze it. I'd suggest freezing it in separate portions. After thawing you can pop it in the microwave to warm it back up.

Do you refrigerate dump cake?

You will need to keep your leftovers refrigerated because the cobbler contains fruit as well as dairy and it can spoil otherwise. This recipe makes 9 servings. It should be fine in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Chopnotch Tips

  • Swap the canned peaches for literally any kind of canned fruit you prefer, either in natural juice or syrup.
  • I love this with vanilla ice cream, but if you prefer whipped cream (or both) go ahead!
  • Make sure the butter is mixed into the cake mix or else you will end up with dry patches of topping.
  • Give it at least 10 minutes (preferably 20) of rest before serving because it is going to be piping hot from the oven.
