Making peach crisp with canned peaches saves so much time and effort! You only need 7 ingredients to make it. The flavor of this incredible dessert is every bit as good as a classic peach crisp, but you can rustle it up in literally next to no time. I prepared mine in 10 minutes flat then all I had to do was pop it in the oven for half an hour.

Canned peaches are a versatile ingredient and can be used to make anything from a creamy parfait, cobbler, or smoothie to sauces, grilled meat or chicken toppings, and salad dressings. It's always worth keeping canned peaches in the pantry.

This fruit crisp boasts the flavors of brown sugar and cinnamon along with juicy peaches. You're going to be amazed how such a quick and easy recipe can result in such an incredible dish. With a few ingredients and just 10 minutes of prep time, you can make a dessert the whole family is going to love.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch peach cobbler and this easy peach cobbler with cake mix are two more of my favorite peach desserts.

Main Ingredients

The ingredients to make peach crisp with canned peaches spread out on a table.

I can't recommend this easy 7-ingredient recipe enough. It's just so good! These are the key ingredients you'll need to make it yourself:

  • Canned peaches: The fruity star of the dish. Peaches in juice or syrup will work in this recipe. Both kinds are naturally sweet so you don't have to add anything to the peach layer.
  • Oats: For the topping. Either quick oats or old-fashioned oats are the best here. Old fashioned oats will give a slightly chewier texture which I think I like more. If you prefer a softer, more delicate texture, go with quick oats. Steel-cut oats will give a much chewier result since they have a longer cooking time.
  • Butter: Binds the topping ingredients. Butter holds everything together for the oat topping. Substitute salted butter for the unsalted if that's all you have, or use a dairy-free butter alternative for a vegan-friendly peach crisp. If you are using a salted variety, halve the amount of salt you use.
  • Brown sugar: Adds sweetness. Although white sugar works too, I love the rich warmth the brown sugar adds to the dish.
  • Cinnamon: Gives another flavor dimension. A good pinch of ground cinnamon really brings out that unmistakable peach flavor in the dessert. Nutmeg would be an alternative here.

Instructions Overview

Drain the canned peaches and put them in a greased baking pan. Combine the flour, sugar, oats, cinnamon, and salt.

Use a pastry cutter or fork to mix in the butter then use this mixture to top the peaches. Bake until golden then serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream, or both!

Common Questions

What's the difference between peach crisp and peach cobbler?

Although these are very similar, peach crisp is topped with a spiced oat topping or similar. A cobbler, on the other hand, has a pie dough or biscuit topping. I love both, but I tend to go for crisps in the warmer months since the oat topping makes them a little lighter than the heavier cobbler topping. But there are no seasonal rules in cooking and this sweet potato cobbler is another favorite of mine!

How do you enhance canned peaches?

They already have plenty of wonderful taste, but when making desserts using canned peaches I love adding warm spices such as cinnamon just to bring out the flavor even more intensely.

What can you do with canned peach liquid?

You'll see from the directions that you'll be draining the liquid off the peaches. But it doesn't have to go to waste! Add it to an open container of fruit juice, freeze it in ice cubes trays to add to future drinks, or use it in a Jell-O recipe instead of some of the water.

Chopnotch Tips

  • Serve this hot with your choice of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Prefer to make a vegan peach crisp? Simply substitute a vegan butter alternative for the butter.
  • Other drained canned fruits such as apples, pineapple, or even mixed fruit cocktails would work just as well as the peaches if you want to experiment.
  • Sliced peaches work well here but, for a chunkier result, use peach halves or cut them in half to make quarters.

  3. The standard size for canned peaches is 15 oz. Does the recipe require 2 standard cans or 4? I can't give a rating because I haven't yet made the recipe. Thanks!

    • Hi Margaret, thanks for your question. I used two 29-ounce cans for a total of 58 ounces of canned peaches. However, you are right that 15-ounce cans are more common. You can certainly use 4 of those cans, which would be a total of 60 ounces of canned peaches. I'm so glad you are planning to make this recipe. Let me know how it turns out!

  4. Where do the Oreos come into the recipe? Snacking while making the peach crisp? lol

    • Hi Rachael, this recipe doesn't use Oreos, but yes, you could totally snack on some while making the crisp if you wanted to!
